CYPSY24 @ NSU

CYPSY24 @ NSU is here! We have a great conference planned to make your time here an exciting amazing experience.

Here is a link to the campus map. The conference will be held in the building labeled “36”. If you are driving, set your GPS for 700 Park Avenue, Norfolk, VA. Turn into the at Gate 1 off the corner off Park Ave and Brambleton Ave (see below).  Ask the guard at the Gate about parking for the conference.  Park in Lot 4 in the sports reserved for the conference (indicated by the “P” directly across from building 36 on the map).

The easiest and cheapest way to get to NSU from the Hilton is the light rail (the “Tide”). Catch the tide on the corner of Main St. and Granby St. near the hotel (see picture below).
Take the Tide 3 stops from MacArthur Square station to Norfolk State University station (pictured below). When you get out, walk to the staircase in the direction of the front of the train (shown below in red). You are heading to the building circled in red below.
When you go down the stairs, this is what you see (in red below). Cross the small street, and once in the parking lot, go diagonal to the right for about a 10 minute walk through campus, depending on your walking speed. The building where the conference is housed (Nursing & General Education Building; NGE) is just after the tennis court and directly across from the baseball field.

Getting to the Gala Dinners:
It is a very short walk to the Spirit of Norfolk docking area (Gala dinner on Monday) from the hotel or the light rail station. If you are driving, there are numerous public parking garages (the ones run by the city of Norfolk are the same price). The Gala dinner on Tuesday is on the first floor of the hotel at Saltine, where we have a private room reserved.

Notes about the gala dinners:

  1. Attire: Casual for both, although slightly more business casual for the restaurant (but it is informal).
  2. Food:
    – Spirit: arrive no later than 6:30 for the boat. The boat will leave without you! I will have your tickets at the boat dock, so please check in with me there (Scott Debb). If I don’t know you, be prepared to show me your ID for your ticket. It is an open bar with no limit and the sooner you board, the sooner you can relax! Your ticket is what you show the bartender to get your drink. Tips are not included. They are not mandatory, but the bartending staff very much appreciate tips and it is customary to give them a few dollars (US). There is a buffet dinner included, as well as a semi-private area with a DJ (no need to tip these folks unless you specifically want to). You have access across most of the boat and your drinks can follow you around.-Saltine: arrive by 6:45 so we can be seated. We have a private area reserved. There is a fixe menu with a few options for the 3 courses. Two drinks are included (beer or wine). Any other drink or food you order must be paid by you directly.
  3. Preregistration is required for both events, so if you haven’t registered but wish to attend, please contact me as soon as possible! smdebb@nsu.edu.
